The Rose of Spring: Ranunculus
When we start seeing these little beauties at the flower market we know that spring is on its way. We get so excited and can't help using them in as many posy of the days as we can. This rose of spring sure knows how to make a statement.
There are over 500 species in the ranunculus family, but only one is used in floristry the Ranunculus Asiaticus. This little flower with its soft tissue paper like petals comes in many colours from whites and pale yellows to dark pinks and reds. Ranunculus are a long-lasting cut flower which makes it the perfect focal point in any floral arrangement. Ranunculus grow happily in warm sun-drenched locations and need protection from colder climates. Something I am sure most of us Gold Coasters can relate to.
